Hiking in Bavaria

The Bavarian Alps are one of the best places to visit for nature lovers

With the exams already finished and a few days left before returning to Spain, it was the perfect time to travel around Bavaria and enjoy what this beautiful region of Germany has to offer. After a few seconds pondering about where to spend those days, I decided to visit two specific places: Herzogstand and Eibsee. The decission was quite easy to make, I had already visited other places like Tegernsee and Starnberg, so getting closer to the Alps was almost straightforward.

I woke up at 7AM to prepare the meal for the trip and take an early Regional Bahn to Kochel, the lake sitting right next to Herzogstand. During the trip, I enjoyed the views along the journey, specially when we stopped by Starnbergsee, the lake was marvelous and filled with color.

In approximately an hour, the train arrived to Kochel, and from there, I took a bus that would bring me to Walchensee, where I started the hike.

The hike was not very difficult, and although there were some parts of the path that were covered in snow or ice, it was not too difficult to go through them. Furthermore, the views of the lake and the mountains were impressive.

Once I arrived to the ski station, I set off to the peak, and since this path was on the north face of the mountain, it was still covered by snow, that reached my knees at some points. It was after 20 minutes walking, that I finally arrived to the cross that indicated that I had reached my destination. From up there, one could see the lake Kochel on one side, and the Alps on the other, the calm that one could feel there made the entire hike worth it.

After an hour or so, I decided to head back to Kochel, I took the gondola from the ski station, and then the bus. Before taking the train back to Munich, I decided to stop by for a little rest in the lake, from where I could see Herzogstand, towering over the lake with its presence while little ducks were chilling in the calm water.

Once in Munich, I went to one of my favourite places of the city, Mamma Bao(if you haven’t been there, you must do it), around five minutes from Hauptbahnhof, to top off this day with a delicious dinner.
